A seminar with Dr Chris Harris (North Shore City Council), Kathy Perreau (Ministry of Transport) and Kent Duston (Save the Basin/Mt Victoria Residentsâ Assn), Tuesday 18 May at Ramsey House, 8 Kelburn Parade, Kelburn, Wellington, NZ. Transport accounts for over $3 billion of the governmentâs yearly budget. With âpeak oilâ around the corner, are we spending that money wisely? Emissions from our transport sector went up by 64% between 1990 and 2006. Will the Emissions Trading Scheme be enough... Topics: transport policy, climate change, emissions, peak oil, wellington

We study the asymptotic behavior of oscillatory Riemann-Hilbert problems arising in the AKNS hierarchy of integrable nonlinear PDE's. Our method is based on the Deift-Zhou nonlinear steepest descent method in which the given Riemann-Hilbert problem localizes to small neighborhoods of stationary phase points. In their original work, Deift and Zhou only considered analytic phase functions. Subsequently Varzugin extended the Deift-Zhou method to a certain restricted class of non-analytic phase... Moduli spaces of hyperbolic surfaces with geodesic boundary components of fixed lengths may be endowed with a symplectic structure via the Weil-Petersson form. We show that, as the boundary lengths are sent to infinity, the Weil-Petersson form converges to a piecewise linear form first defined by Kontsevich. The proof rests on the observation that a hyperbolic surface with large boundary lengths resembles a graph after appropriately scaling the hyperbolic metric. We also include some... We study a 1D transport equation with nonlocal velocity. First, we prove eventual regularization of solutions when dissipation is in the supercritical range. Next, we will prove global regularity for solutions when dissipation is slightly supercritical. Both results utilize a nonlocal maximum principle. Source: http://arxiv.org/abs/1304.4296v2
Moduli spaces of hyperbolic surfaces may be endowed with a symplectic structure via the Weil-Petersson form. Mirzakhani proved that Weil-Petersson volumes exhibit polynomial behaviour and that their coefficients store intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves. In this survey article, we discuss these results as well as some consequences and applications. Source: http://arxiv.org/abs/1103.4674v1

Mixing childhood imagination with real world environments, 3DO's Army Men game brings to life the plastic military units we all played with as kids. It's tactical action like you've always imagined. Melt 'em, shoot 'em, and blow them up; just like you did back then... but be careful- this time, they shoot back. Be Sarge and command a unit to DEFEND, ATTACK, or FOLLOW. Call in AIRSTRIKES; send in PARATROOPERS, but make sure to get a good picture of the land with an AIR-RECON first. Guide Sarge... Topics: Windows games, Vintage computer games, Action games
